Attic Studio

Zach started renovations on our attic in early September, he had plans to change it from storage to a studio. It was a gift of sorts, one of the best gifts he has ever given me. We've talked about what this space could be for years, but it wasn't until after we had our daughter that transforming it into a studio clicked. We designed the space together to function as a studio, office, and smaller storage for paintings and supplies. It was important to both of us that we highlight the already existing beauty, leaving the floor as is and accentuating the wooden beam right above the stairs. We worked on the space as much as we could during the evenings after our baby went to bed or during her nap-time on the weekends; I am surprised and proud that she was able to sleep through drilling, hammering, and the occasional frustrated argument. With the help of both our dads and brother-in-law, Zach installed the drywall and updated the lighting and outlets. I taped, mudded, and painted...and that's all the credit I can take. Zach created this space, he created it with love, patience, and an understanding of the importance of an artist's studio. It's beautiful.
